Creative Capitol celebrates Colorado artists and images of the state
of Colorado. The Colorado Council on the Arts (CCA) and Denver International
Airport (DIA) are pleased to announce a call to artists to participate
in a four-part rotating series of exhibitions featuring the diverse talents
of artists from the Northwest, Southwest, Eastern, and Metro Denver areas
of our state.
This third exhibition will highlight artists from Eastern Colorado.* CCA
and DIA are looking for two-dimensional creative interpretations of Colorado
environments and culture.

The selected artworks
will first be displayed at Denver International Airport (March thru June
2010); then travels to the State Capitol for an exhibition in the Lieutenant
Governor's Office and basement of the rotunda (July thru October 2010.)
Entry Deadline: Tuesday December 1, 2009 by 11:59 (MST)
All application
materials must be submitted electronically through CaFÉ™. Slides
will not be accepted. Application closes promptly at 12:00 a.m. (MST) on
December 2. Technical support is available until 5:00 p.m. the day of the
deadline. There is no application fee to apply or to use the CaFÉ™ online
application system. All artwork submitted must be available for the duration
of the show.
CRITERIA
Open to: Colorado artists who are residents of one
of the following counties:
Eastern Colorado
Baca
Bent
Cheyenne
Crowley
El Paso
Elbert
Kiowa
Kit Carson
Lincoln
Logan
Morgan
Otero
Phillips
Prowers
Sedgwick
Washington
Weld
Yuma
Only Two-Dimensional Artworks will be considered for the exhibition. Artworks
can be created in a variety of media, but must adhere to the dimension
and weight guidelines below.
Dimensions:
Due to CCA and DIA exhibition
space hanging systems, the outside frame dimension of the artwork must
measure larger than Height 20” x Width 20” and not exceed Height 48” x
Width 68” x Depth 2 ½”.
Weight:
Framed artwork must not
exceed 50 pounds.
Each artist is invited to submit up to two artworks,
and only high-quality digital images of artworks will be accepted for
the application process. All application materials must be submitted electronically
through CaFÉ™. Slides will not be accepted.
Applicants must
currently be a Colorado resident in one of the 18 counties listed and
agree to the terms and conditions of the CCA and DIA Exhibition Policy
and Entry Terms.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Artwork submitted to the Creative
Capitol exhibition will be juried via the CaFÉ™ Online Jury
System. Judging will be based on digital images submitted. Digital images
submitted must represent the actual work available for the exhibition.
The selected applicants will be notified the week of January 4, 2010.
CCA and DIA reserve the right to refuse to exhibit any work they deem
unacceptable due to poor craftsmanship or significant departure from image
representation. The subject matter of the exhibitions must be appropriate
for viewing in a public venue. CCA and DIA do not accept for display political
statements, nudity, lewd or pornographic depictions, violent or menacing
images, weapons, ethnic slurs or any controversial materials that could
make airline passengers apprehensive about flying.
LIABILITY
All artwork
accepted into the exhibition will be insured for the time that it is in
DIA’s possession. All artwork accepted into the

PRESENTATION
All entries must be suitably presented and
wired for hanging. A French
Cleat hanging system is not compatible with DIA’s and CCA’s
exhibit cable hanging system. All artworks must be wired and/or have “D” ring
hardware for hanging. Works on paper and photography must be framed or
mounted. It is recommended that only a simple wood or metal frame complimented
by a neutral colored mat be used to frame the artwork. Photographs mounted
on foam board must be framed.
DELIVERY
Instructions for hand-delivered
works will be given at time of notification that a work has been selected
for the exhibition. Shipped work must be sent in a reusable carton. DIA
and CCA are not responsible for damage caused in transit during shipping.
The artist is responsible for the cost of shipping to DIA. Arrangements
for the return of the artworks after the exhibition will be the responsibility
of the artist.
SALES
An artist can sell his or her own work during the
exhibit, but no work will be taken from the exhibit until it concludes.
CCA and DIA will not act as an intermediary for any sales transactions
and they do not take any commission on sales of work sold through this
exhibition. THE LENDER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COLLECTING SALES TAX AND
SHIPPING COSTS FOR GOODS SOLD.
