New 1,800-space Parking Garage Now Open

The number of public parking spaces at Denver International Airport increased by 1,800 Monday, with the opening of a new garage module at the southwest corner of Jeppesen Terminal. With the new facility, DIA will have just under 41,000 public parking spaces.

Construction of the $47.5 million garage began in May 2006. Elevators on all five levels of the garage will take customers to a walkway that connects with the adjacent module to the north, providing access to the terminal.

The new garage, which was built by FCI Constructors Inc., opened to the public at 5 a.m. Monday, January 21. The daily rate for parking in the new garage will be $18, the same as in all other DIA garages.

New Parking Availability Feature on Denver International Airport’s Parking Web Site; also Accessible from Mobile Devices

In October 2007, Denver International Airport’s Web site began providing a new feature that allows customers to view parking availability/conditions in all DIA on-site parking facilities. These facilities include garage, economy, short-term, and valet parking, as well as the Pikes Peak and Mt. Elbert shuttle lots. As parking conditions change during a day, the site will be updated to reflect current parking status. You may also retrieve this information on your mobile device.

On the Web site’s parking home page, you will find the airport’s on-site parking options listed.  Next to each parking lot name is the status of that lot. The status will indicate whether that facility is open, full or nearing capacity. Nearing capacity indicates that DIA is experiencing heavy traffic and spaces are becoming limited in that specific parking lot. A lot that is nearing capacity means you should consider a different DIA parking facility or you should allow extra time for looking for scarce spaces.

The Mt. Elbert lot may indicate closed. Closed means the facility is not open to incoming traffic at this time. This lot is used as the airport’s seasonal overflow lot. When Pikes Peak Shuttle Lot becomes full, the Mt. Elbert Shuttle Lot will open. It often opens on Thursdays or Fridays and for most holidays.

If you are going to arrive at DIA several hours after you consult flydenver.com, or even on another day, we suggest checking the parking section on the Web site again, just before you leave for the airport, either from your computer or on your mobile device, because parking conditions can change often throughout the day.
